His big moment! Martin Clunes was presented with an OBE for “services to drama, charity and the community in Dorset” during an Investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, Berkshire, on Friday, December 4, 2015.
Martin appears delighted as he receives congratulations from Her Majesty, the Queen. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is the order of chivalry of British constitutional monarchy rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations and public service outside the Civil Service.
Comments after the ceremony:
The Daily Mail: “Chuffed to bits: He joked that he would love to find an event where he could wear his medal ‘legitimately, without looking like a show off.'”
The Dorset Echo: “If I’m feeling sad or scared I might put my medal on at home and feel a bit better.”
Congratulations, Martin, from all your fans around the world.

In Series 7, episode 1, didn’t Morwenna say something about an OBE to the Doc to which he responded with his comment about a simile? I thought that Mr. Clunes had already received the award a while ago, so I was happy today to see him with the queen and looking so elegant. I think it would be funny to see him walking around Port Wenn in that glamorous outfit. Maybe not.
Anyway thank you so much, Karen, for keeping us Clunatics apprized of everything to do with Martin Clunes as well as Doc Martin.
Hi Mary, yes, in S7E1, Morwenna says, “it’s like getting an MBE or something,” obviously a nod to Martin’s OBE.
Although the Queen’s real birthday is in April, June is considered her “official birthday,” and the honors are referred to as the “Queen’s Birthday Honours.” Presentations are made to recipients at various times during the months following the June announcement.
Swoonnn!! He looks so good.
